Sable Island

As I write this I am whatching a documentary on the wild horses of sable island. The horses on sable island are special because they get to be free of any human interaction. But there is downside to that, first of all they never get groomed so there manes are really knotty, second they don't have any farriers so there hoofs are soooooooo long.It is so amazing how these horses live and eat,it just wows you.One of the people that were on sable island said"it's wonderful how there is one place that is compassionnate about natural habitats".

  1. This is a wonderful insight to the beauty of the Sable Island horses! I am glad you share my enthusiasm for this amazing fact and also aren't you proud that this is a part of our Canada. I enjoyed reading your blog very much and please continue to post more. I especially loved you choice of pictures. The shaggy horse reminds me of Empress....Sharon's black horse.

  2. Maggie, this is a very insightful and thoughtful response to a photographers view of the ponies of Sable Island. Your concerns for their health and grooming touched me. Freedom is a wonderful thing, but usually comes with a price. Keep blogging...love papa Rein.
